Attracting players from across the region to enjoy its state-of-the-art facilities, East Anglia is home to one of England’s largest tennis centres.
Easton and Otley College Tennis Centre, based on the Easton Campus in Norfolk, is open to the public. It boasts the largest competition programme in the region and has the most successful Performance Programme in Suffolk and Norfolk – launched in 2015, the Tennis Performance Programme is aimed at fostering the development of young players who would like to play at a higher level.
The tennis centre has some of the best facilities in the UK, including four European red clay courts. These are the only such courts in England, other than those at the National Tennis Centre – similar to the French Open courts in Paris and other clay courts used for international tournaments across Europe.
The clay courts are seen as a particular boost for Norfolk, since they are renowned for being the best surface for junior tennis players to learn their craft. To further boost the coaching facilities, the tennis centre also has indoor courts and high-quality cameras to record training sessions. One of these is mounted on a rail and carriage system at the courtside, allowing adjustability. There’s also a 46-inch screen with a polycarbonate cover at the courtside, allowing instant replay. Software enables the coaches to record a video of the training session and burn it on to a DVD for the student to take home and study later.
