The tennis circuit in South West England has helped nurture one of Great Britain’s rising young talents. Katie Swan was just 15 years old when she was catapulted to international stardom after reaching the final of the Australian Open Junior Championship. Playing on the international circuit was a far cry from her early tennis lessons at the David Lloyd Club in Bristol, where she grew up in Abbots Leigh with parents Nicki and Richard Swan.

Katie, who made her Wimbledon debut on the adult circuit in June 2016, discovered her penchant for tennis by chance during a family holiday to Portugal. At the tender age of 7, her parents booked her some lessons for fun and were amazed when the local coach told them that she was talented enough to become a professional player. On returning to Abbots Leigh, Katie began to take regular tennis lessons with the Head Coach, Rob Hawkins, at the David Lloyd Club. He went on to train her until she was 11.
